Contested Regional Identities

Although Canada continues to experience strong regional identities, economic, cultural and political realities suggest that the concept of an Atlantic region can be reassessed or even challenged. The 19th Atlantic Canada Studies Conference will focus on the theme of the past, present and future of regionalism, with an emphasis on Atlantic Canada. Submissions on the construction of cultural, provincial and regional identities, the contested nature of identities and the relation of region to nation, are particularly encouraged. In addition to academics, researchers and professionals in the public and private sectors are encouraged to submit proposals. The conference is meant to be inclusive, and the organizing committee will also consider proposals on topics that do not match the general theme.

Proposals for session, workshops, round tables, and individual papers should be no more than one single-spaced page in length and should be accompanied by a short curriculum vitae. Proposals may be submitted in either French or English. Submissions will be adjudicated by members of
the program committee. Individuals who are selected may also be asked to complete additional forms to support funding applications. As in the past, papers presented at the Atlantic Canada Studies Conference should be available for consideration for publication in Acadiensis.
